Local company InfoTrust Helps 4x More Families in 2018 with its Global Giving

Last year we introduced you to the InfoTrust Thanksgiving Basket Brigade. If you recall, each year InfoTrust partners with organizations to identify underprivileged families, delivering food and other supplies, “baskets,” to these families. According to InfoTrust CEO Alex Yastrebenetsky, “We are supporting every community where we have offices, where our employees live, and where they have families.” In 2017, InfoTrust gave 450 baskets. This, combined with company growth and a culture of giving, puts InfoTrust on track to help over 4 times that amount this year.

InfoTrust gives in the US and abroad, providing food and other items: whatever is needed. For example, the team delivered clothing to homeless people in India on Diwali; supported a women’s shelter in Sri Lanka; provided school supplies for underprivileged kids in the Philippines; donated winter clothing and other necessities to a shelter in Marquette, Michigan; and funded a scholarship for a University of Cincinnati Blue Ash student. “This is managed locally but delivered internationally.” In some cases, families make the deliveries on behalf of InfoTrust.

Through the InfoTrust Foundation, through which all giving is managed, the team is on track to give 2000 baskets this year. This is in part due to the new office InfoTrust opened in Chicago: to celebrate, the team was introduced to a new partner organization in Chicago, to spearhead giving there. The growth is also due to the change in model: giving is year round, not just during Thanksgiving and other end of year holidays. “We give something every quarter,” Yastrebenetsky said.

More are taking note of InfoTrust. In May 2018, the InfoTrust Foundation was mentioned at the United Nations. The president-elect of the global Entrepreneur’s Organization (EO), whose 13,000 members include Yastrebenetsky, gave a speech about entrepreneurship and creating a shared, sustainable future together. At the 1:19:25 mark, EO President-elect Brian Bault mentioned InfoTrust for feeding “over 400 homeless families each Thanksgiving.” You can watch the video here.

Although InfoTrust has accomplished much in giving this year, the team isn’t resting on its laurels. The CEO is looking ahead to 2019 with two goals in mind for the organization.
The first goal is to establish partnerships with companies who can to help give more. For example, the Yastrebenetsky would like to partner with a company like Kroger. The reason? “When we buy food for baskets, though we buy a lot, we’re still paying retail. Kroger may partner with nonprofit organizations where the nonprofits pay wholesale. If we can find ways to get food at cheaper prices, we can potentially give more.”

The second goal is to engage other small businesses, partnering with them to increase the scale of giving. Yastrebenetsky wants to recruit other businesses like his to give. “Small businesses may want to get more involved in their communities,” he said, “but may be so busy trying to make it, trying to grow, they don’t think much about giving back right now. They think they’ll do it later, when they’re bigger. I can demonstrate they can do it now, how they can do it.”

Giving back not only helps the families and communities receiving assistance, but helps the company doing the giving. Giving is part of the culture InfoTrust and its team members are dug in. Some of the organizations InfoTrust supports are those identified by the team members. “It’s not just Alex choosing where to help. These are organizations the team wants to help. And giving binds us together.”

You can tell, and not just by the size of their gifts this year. For the second year in a row, InfoTrust was certified as a “Great Place to Work,” endorsed by the Great Place to Work® Institute. In addition, InfoTrust is a winner of Cincinnati’s 2018 Best Places to Work award.
